Louis Anthony deLise was born in the Olney neighborhood of Philadelphia and grew up in rural
Bucks County, Pennsylvania where his family moved when he was five. He studied jazz
drumming as a youngster and taught himself to play the piano by making up tunes and reading
through “fake books” at the family spinet. His formal studies in composition and percussion (he
pursued a double major) began at Temple University in Philadelphia where he earned a Doctor of
Musical Arts in composition at the Boyer College of Music and Dance. While an undergraduate,
deLise wrote the theme for a local Philadelphia television program and achieved his first
Billboard “Pick Hit.”
His concert music for choirs and instrumentalists is performed often and is available in print from
Print Music Source, Bocage Music Publishing, LLC and Alry Publications, LLC. He is the author
of The Contemporary Minstrel: Songwriting, Recording and Making Money with Your Music, a
textbook on songwriting.
Louis deLise was arranger and conductor for Robert Hazard (writer of “Girls Just Wanna Have
Fun”) and Grammy winners Patti LaBelle and the rock band, Halestorm, in concert
performances and recordings. For many years, he was an arranger for Grammy winner, Peter
Nero’s Philly Pops orchestra.
deLise has produced, arranged and conducted for pop and concert music recordings released on
many labels, including EMI, Vanguard, Def-Jam, Centaur, SoulJazz, EM, BBE, Mercury and
CBS records. He arranged and conducted for Patti LaBelle’s top 20 album, Timeless Journey and
her number one hit, The Gospel According to Patti LaBelle.

Dance, Rowan University, and Pennsylvania State University. He frequently presents seminars on
